The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International was founded on May 11, 1929 by Dr. Annie Webb Blanton. The founding group of educators believed that there was a need for an organization to promote professional preparation, to recognize women's work in education and to provide scholarships for those in need of funding for preparation in their profession. The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International was founded by Dr. Annie Webb Blanton and eleven other women educators on May 11, 1929 in Austin, Texas. In less than a month on June 3, 1929 these same women educators founded Alpha State Texas, in Austin, Texas.
